What's New At Chief Dan George Middle School ?

School Newsletters

May 25, 2008

Our 6th Annual Chess Tournament was a great success. We had just under 200 players from 27 different schools from around the Lower Fraser Valley and the Lower Mainland attend this year's event.  Our school's chess team under the care of Coach Glum did very well. The team took second place in the grade 6-8 category. Logan W. of grade six took the second place trophy in the 6-8 individual category. First place, of course, went to Tanraj Sohal of Surrey, who is Canada's top grade 6 chess player in 2008 - three time national champion. He has been to every one of our tournaments since grade one. He says our tournament is his most favourite. Wow, what a compliment.

May 17, 2008

Wolves Racing Team took two junior dragsters to Mission Raceway Park on Friday, May 16, 2008. We totally rocked the competition. Our fastest car broke more records - fastest times evar.....................See the complete story here.

Congratulations Grace Tsai on a marvelous performance at this year's Canwest Spelling Finals held in our nation's capital. Grace came in fourth place.

After winning the district spelling bee finals not that long ago, Grace went on to the Regional Championships where she won the right to represent Vancouver in the nationals.

Another student from Chief Dan George Middle made the news this week. Sunny Dhinsa, who graduated from our school last year,  won two national championship titles in the sport of wrestling. Congratulations, Sunny!

March 13, 2008

On March 6th of this year, Mr. Lilly and the catering group put on another fantastic fundraising dinner for the Grade 8 band. People who attended the dinner raved about the great food. For pics of the food, visit the Wolves Catering web page.

On April 16th, 24 grade 8 band students will be going to Disneyland to perform on site. They will be gone for four days. They will be accompanied by Ms. Norton, Mr. Lilly, Mrs. Williams, and Mr. Biggerstaff. On top of performing in Disneyland, the band will take part in a sound session at Disney Hall working with Disney musicians. They will be recording Disney music over cartoons.

The itinerary includes:
Good luck, students, and have the time of your lives!

Grace Tsai wins Regional CanWest Can Spell Competition
Last Sunday,  Grade 8 student  Grace Tsai was crowned as the CanWest Can Spell champion for the region of Hope to Whistler. Grace competed with 70 other incredible spellers at the Orpheum Theatre for the right to represent this region in the now annual CanWest Can Spell National championships held in Ottawa.  This competition will take place in mid April. Also, Canada Post is sponsoring all Canadian regional winners (there are 22 regional champions), to attend the massive Scripps Spelling Bee held annually in Washington, DC.  This event will take place in May.  In addition, Grace received a $5,000 R.E.S.P. and some nice parting gifts for her victory.

There were eight rounds to the competition on Sunday.  After seven rounds  only four competitors were left. In round eight it was down to two.  Grace spelled her word correctly but her competitor missed his.   Grace then was given one last word to spell. It was "bandolier".  She did so without batting an eyelash and was awarded the top prize.  Grace showed great poise and confidence throughout this intense event. She is being viewed by the judges as a  front runner at the national competition.  Grace was shown receiving her award on Global television during the News Hour Sunday night and was front page news in Vancouver Sun Monday morning.  Way to go Grace!!

Rice Raiser
The first ever Rice Raiser at Chief Dan George happened on Thursday, March 13th.  Our grade 8 students collected over 400 kg rice for the Abbotsford Food Bank and over $990 in money donations. Many students participated in the 24 hour famine. Thank you to all that participated in donating food, money and your time! Thank you for taking action to help change global hunger! Awesome job grade 8's!!

Band 8 to perform on site at Disneyland
Our Grade 8 band has recently received fabulous news. Through a rigorous audition  process they have been granted the opportunity to perform directly on the Anaheim Disneyland site during their trip to California in April.  This is a significant accomplishment in that thousands of bands from North America seek approval each year for this honor and only a small percentage are granted the opportunity.

April 10, 2006

On Friday, April 7th, members of the Wolf Racing Team took the school's junior dragster to Mission Raceway Park for a day of fun in the sun. Our drivers, pit crew, and sponsor teachers had a blast. Our next track date is April 21st. Our sponsor, Husky Tools, will be giving us a few goodies to help make our car a sure winner. The last season we raced, we took the Provincial title.

March 31, 2006

CDGMS students did very well at the district public speaking events. For more info on this and other fantastic wolves news, check out the latest school newsletter.

CDGMS Chess Club members Alex L., Justin L., Jacqueline T., Do-Young K. and Anthony C. entered the South Surrey Chess Tournament last Sunday. Our team did very well. Justin L. took second place in the grade 7 category,  Do-Young K. took third place in the grade 6 category, and  Alex L. took third place in the grade 8 category. All five of our players qualified for the provincials. Congratulations to all!  Our very own chess tournament will take place on May 27, 2006. We are hoping to keep it under 200 players (last year, we had 225 players). If any of you would like to help out that day, the chess club would really appreciate it.  Please contact the school and leave a message for Mr. Sakai if you are able to assist.

Mr. Lilly has pics of the last catering event uploaded on his Wolves Catering web page. Wolves catering will be busy with four more events to go, including the grade eight year end dinner.

The CDGMS Drag Racing Team has been working very hard the past few weeks in order to get the junior dragster ready for the first track date this coming Friday. We have not raced the dragster at Mission Raceway Park since we took first place in the Provincial Finals two seasons ago. We are quite determined to win it all again this year. So far, we got the motor running, which was quite a feat in itself, considering the dragster sat collecting dust for nearly two years. However, it is not running as consistently as it did the last time. Practicing in the parking lot is not the best way to prepare for the track and the students are quite nervous. Stay tuned for more updates!!

February 28, 2006

Mr. Lilly has uploaded a few recipes from his vault of quick and easy recipes. Guaranteed to make you smile. Just find your way to the Home Economics web page.

Prizes: Hockey tickets to Canucks Games, DVD Player, Flat Screen TV. a dozen full length DVD's, 100 glow bracelets and 40 LED magnets............. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 24, 2005

The school year is coming to an end very quickly. Most people are looking forward to a well deserved summer vacation. On the 22nd, we had all grade five students from our feeder schools come out for an open house. It gave us an opportunity to show off all the clubs and teams we have here at CDGMS. To start thing up, our principal put on a demonstration of juggling......... not the kind he does on a daily basis (balancing the budget, keeping the staff happy, promoting our school, etc.), but the kind that involves keeping objects in the air - without injuring yourself. Mr. Dudzik did not bring his usual flaming batons, bowling balls, and chainsaws. I think he did not want to take away too much from the other things we offer at our school. Our boys rugby team being district champions, our chess team being the best in the district, our junior drag racing teambeing Provincial champions wer e just some of the noted highlights presented at our open house. As far as our sports programs are concerned we are very proud of the fact that we are one of the very few (and I stress very few -- more like the only one) that has a true, no-cut policy. Having as much students participate for the love of the sport is more important to us than fielding the best possible players. Funny thing is, we still do very well in competitions. Our band programme is second to none as far as middle schools go, as our participation in band is at or near 50% of the school's population!! And, it has been that way for a couple of years. From all indications, it will look that way for next year as well. Most people would think Chief Dan George Middle School was a fine arts school or something. After a short tour of the school's facilities, the grade 5'ers were treated to one of our famous Tailgate Parties.

For a more detailed update on what goes on at CDGMS on a bi-weekly basis, please check out the school newsletters.

CDGMS Boys Rugby Team are the Best

Sports history was made at this school last week when our boys rugby team defeated Eugene Reimer Ravens to win the Upper Fraser Valley championships for 2005.  The game was an extremely close and hard fought battle that ended in a 10 - 5 score.   Leading up to that game the Ravens had won 13 straight games, had not lost against an opponent in the Upper and Lower Fraser Valley regions in three seasons, and were the two-time Upper Fraser Valley champions.  Congratulations to all the boys involved and especially to volunteer community coaches Mr. Chris Farley and Mr. Charles Laudadio.

Band of Brothers.......... TNT - Dynamite!

March 12., 2005

Semester three is over at the end of this week and semester four begins next week. Quick reminder that the Den will be closed for the remainder of the school year. Congratulations go out to former CDGMS student, Matthew Guze. Matthew qualified for the provincial chess tournament that was held at BCIT this past Sunday and he came away from it with a second place trophy. There's even a chance Matt may be asked to represent BC at the national finals to be held in Ottawa. Way to go Matt! Three of our own students, all of whom are in grade six, also attended the provincials. Kype P. and Justin L. both tied for fourth place with three wins out of five. Tony K. won two of his five games. Congratulations, guys. While we are on the subject of chess, CDGMS will be hosting its 3rd Annual Chess Tournament on May 28, 2005. We are hoping for 200 participants this year. For more info check out the Chess Tournament page.

Open House for Grade 5 students

Approximately 200 grade five students from around Abbotsford descended upon our school this morning to get a taste of what middle school is all about. They were given a tour of the facilities and were treated to one of our famous tail gate parties. Best BBQ this side of Mt. Lehman. We are looking forward to working with these eager students come September. Students, even though the the school is now closed for summer, keep checking back for more updates. Schedules, bell times, and other pertinent info will be posted as soon as they are made available to us. Students coming to CDGMS for the first time in September, check out the rest of the web site, especially the newsletters, to see what kinds of things go on at this busy school.

Yesterday's award assembly was both exciting and sad, as the staff, parents and students had to bid farewell to quite a few people. Mr. Revel, Mr. Wilms, Mr. Laudadio, Mrs. Paul, Mr. Lightfoot, and Mrs. Woelders. We wish you people all the best - you will be missed dearly. Grade eights! We will miss all of you as well. Many of you are the first to have gone through all three years at this school. May your days continue to be bright and full of laughter. Each one of you takes a little part of a teacher with you when you leave here. We hope that your experience here at CDGMS was a positive one. Mr. Revel once said, never look in the rear view mirror - just keep driving forward.

Grade 8 Lock In Experience

5:00 in the morning and not many adults have made it through the night without either sleeping or lying down to rest for a while. Even the great Mr. McAvoy took a rest for half an hour. Yours truly, Mr. Coffee (Mr. Lilly), Mr. Batryn, Mr. Laudadio, and Shanny (Lois) were the only ones to keep going all night long. Very few students went to sleep - it will be a quiet Sunday, for sure in some households. Thanks go out to those parents who came out to lend a hand - to supervise and cook breakfast. It's a great thing we do for the kids. The tradition will continue again next year, I think. The Baby Pictures slide show, students' iMovies, pancake breakfast, karaoke(sort of), yearbook signings, inflatable games, DDR, XBox, and Bolo Tournament, were such great fun. We've gotta do it again, Mr. Mac!

June 10, 2004

Grade 8 lock in is this Saturday starting at 7 pm and ending Sunday morning. Mr. McAvoy has done a great job organizing the event. Close to 160 students will be at this year's lock in.

Chief Dan George staff and students would like to wish our long-time day custodian, Mr. Lightfoot all the best as he retires this Tuesday. One of the nicest people you'll ever meet, he will be dearly missed at CDGMS.

For dates and times of events for this busy month, please visit the school newsletter page.

In case you haven't heard yet, the following people are leaving our school:

No need to wish these people luck - they will do well wherever they go. They're the best!

June 9, 2005

Our Grade 6/7 Golf Team won the 1st annual District Championships today at Valley Golf Centre. A winning chip in by Kevin R. and a stellar round by Kellan T. gave us enough points to upset Clayburn, Howe and Abby Middle.

Gr 8 Championships are being held at Ledgeview next Monday. Good Luck, grade 8 golfers!

Track and Field Success! More than just winning and losing.

Letter from the athletic director to our staff.......

Just so you know, our school again did immeasurably well at the 2nd Annual District Track Championships.

Our school placed 1st in two categories, and 2nd in 3!! Our school finished 2nd overall out of all the Middle Schools in the district.

I was extremely proud of our athletes and even more proud of them for their excellent, professional behavior! They were classy in competition, often times congratulating the first place person when they did not even know them!!

Special thanks to Bruce, Colin, Gilbert, Alex, Charles, Martin, and Kirsten who served on this year's track committee, and played a pivotal part in the coaching of our athletes and the organization of this years program. One of the things I am going to dearly miss is the incredible Track program we as teachers have created!!!

Open House a Great Success!

The staff and students of CDG put on a great show for prospective students and parents. The evening started off with the band playing a few songs. One of the songs "Born to be Wild" was dedicated to Mr. Dugdale and his recently purchased scooter. The audience was then treated to a couple of iMovies. The first one was an iMovie put together by the talented Mr. Laudadio chronicling the Grade Eight French Immersion students' trip to Quebec. The second was one created by a couple of CDGMS students appropriately titled, "A Day at CDG". The whole event turned into a celebration of all the wonderful things that happen at our school.

As one parent commented...

"Just coming out tonight gave me a wonderful feeling - the great energy this building and its people have is incredible!"

CDGMS ROCKS!!

CDGMS Chess Club Success!

Our chess club did very well at the North Poplar Fine Arts School Chess Tournament this past Saturday. Matt H. and Tim A. lead the way, winning all of their games. The Chief Dan George team won the overall best team trophy. For the grade six category, Matthew G. took home the second place trophy and Falene K-M. came away with the third place trophy. Our grade sevens were also successful with Tim A. and Sam B. coming in first and second, respectively. We only fielded two grade eights this time around, but they also did well with Matt H. taking first place and Matts B. taking second place. Magan H., Peter W., and Sheldon B. also did very well and came very, very close to making it a clean sweep for the grade seven category. Hats off to Mr. Glum from North Poplar who did a fantastic job of running a great tournament.

Our very own chess tournament is coming up very quickly - May 29th to be exact. Like last year, we are anticipating a turn out of about 150- K to 12 chess enthusiasts from around the province. For more info, visit cdgms.com/chess2004.htm

"We created the Community Card to help our schools and neighbourhood kids. We are proud to be part of your community. We're your neighbours, and we value the same things you do. Like family. And education. That's why we're proud to bring you "IGA 4 Schools", where your grocery purchases can mean new computers for schools in your community. Just register for your Marketplace IGA Community Card, then start shopping. The school(s) of your choice will then receive a credit from the purchase of most Smart Choice, our Compliments, and MarketPlace IGA brand items. Soon, the school(s) you choose (any school in B.C. public or private, kindergarten through Grade 12) can turn their credits into computers. It's that simple. You, and MarketPlace IGA, working together to put new computers in your neighbourhood schools."

Our school recently received $106.44 in credits at London Drugs Computers from parents currently using their IGA card! Thank you for supporting our school!

March 9, 2004

The CDGMS Chess Club attended the Lower Fraser Valley Regional Chess Tournament this last Saturday. It was held in Surrey and went from 9 am to 3:00 pm. We managed to field a team of 5 players - which was a feat in itself with soccer and hockey in full gear. All the players did well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Tim A did extremely well by winning 4 out of 5 games. He went into the final playoff round tied for second. Nerves of steel weren't enough as he lost the final game and placed third. Tim will go on to the Provincial Finals - good luck, Tim.

Sarah G. a student from Clearbrook Elementary (younger sister of Matthew, who's on our chess team), was in a four way tie for first place with 4 wins out of 5 at the end of the tournament. Unfortunately, she came in third place - this without playing any playoff games. As it turned out, the players did not want to play anymore games (can you blame them?). The placing of the winners was then decided on the "Algorithm" ruling. Although, and I stress although, she defeated the eventual first place winner, she had lost to an opponent who didn't place in the top four. This was Sarah's first tournament and her inexperience cost her. Toward the end of the tournament she looked unbeatable. Rules are rules and she will go on to the Provincial Finals even more determined and prepared. This tournament was for students from grades K to 7. In two weeks it'll be the secondary grade students' turn. Hopefully we will have enough grade eight students to field a team.

LITERACY RULES!!!

Our recent Literacy Week (held in February) was a success! Congrats to everyone who participated! We had a door decorating contest (theme - "Why Read?") that was won by Mr. Schmor's very artistic, super reading class! We had "Get Caught Reading" where over 800 prizes were given out to students and teachers who "Got Caught Reading". We had "Stop, Drop and Read" where the entire school stops what they are doing and reads for 15 minutes 3 times in one day! Wow! Imagine what literacy we can achieve with this effort put in by our wonderful kids everyday! We even had a "Dress up as your Favorite Author and/or Character" day - congrats to the 100 kids who took the time to do it. Way to go Jessica Warkentin who looked just like Jean Little! We finished the week with visits from two amazing authors - Eric Wilson and Pam Withers. Way to go Chief Danners!!!

Huge thanks to Mr. Schmor for all the time and effort he put in towards coaching the team! Awesome job!!!

The grade 8 girls finished their season last week ranked 5th in the A.M.S.S.A.A. The girls won their first game against Heritage Park 3-0 then were beat 3-0 by Yale who was ranked 4th. Impressive spiking by Kathleen R. and Cara H. Great season girls!!!!

November 7, 2003

Check out the CDGMS Swim Team Page for updated swimming results, along with new pics!

Your child forgets to bring the school newsletter home all the time? No problem, as we have them on-line. Homework and assignments? Sure. More and more of our teachers are using this web site to ensure that those students who are forgetful and those who may be abroad on family trips get the latest notes and assignments. We are also working on making available marks from tests (password protected, of course) to parents.

The staff, administration, and student body at CDGMS would like to remind everybody to stop what they are doing at 11 am on November 11th to think about the brave men and women who serve our country and protect our way of life. Not just the people who have lost their lives in the line of duty during the world wars, but also those who survived the horrors of war, and the ones who serve as peace keepers throughout the world. Remember and honour them by thinking of peace. That is why these people put their lives on the line each and every day. CDGMS honoured the brave on Thursday with a touching and respectful ceremony. Despite what the media portrays, with great sensationalism, students do understand about the horrors of war and conflict. They do appreciate the kind of life we have here in Canada. And they are aware of why we have freedom and rights. Please join us on November 11th to think about those who gave so we could live in peace.

October 17, 2003

We had our very first pep rally of the year today, and it was awesome! Mr. Goerke really knows how to dance up a storm. He likes to pick up people and put them over his head. Being close to seven feet tall, that's quite a ways up. We had the bungee cord races, the Dan Cam going, the Volleyball, Swimming, Drag Racing, and Cross Country Running Teams all came up and got their just rewards. It was an awesome display of school and team spirit. Our main school goal for this year is literacy and we all celebrated it at the pep rally. It was ELECTRIFYING!!

July 29, 2003 Summer News Update

Visit the Summer News page to view next year's bell schedule, supply list, teacher assignments, calendars, etc.

June 20, 2003

The school year is finally coming to a close. It has been a busy one at that. Students, admin, and staff have all worked hard to make CDGMS a truly special place to be. The web site will continue to hum along over the summer break. Updates will be few and far between, of course, but anytime news develops this will be the palce to visit for the latest in announcements. Students, please have a safe and most enjoyable summer vacation.

Mr. Sakai

CDGMS ICT Manager

June 19, 2003

The Wolf Racing Team will be hoping for good weather on Friday, June 20, as it will be the last chance for the team to get in a run at Mission Raceway Park. The weather, of course, has not been good to us at all this year. If it wasn't the weather, it was mechanical problems. Our main driver, Sam P. is in grade eight and will be graduating this year. It would be a shame if she does not get to drive at the track this year.

June 6, 2003

Year end awards ceremony will be held June 20, 2003. Please check School Newsletters page for more info on this and other school happenings. English grade sevens now have a News and Updates page in the Classes section of our web site. Slowly, but surely we are adding more and more class pages to help parents receive more detailed info on "what's new" in their child's classes.

Late French Immersion brochures were sent out to grade 5 students in Abbotsford to promote the LFI programme at our school.

May 28, 2003

We now have our very own message board. It is hosted on ezboard.com and can be located at:

http://pub56.ezboard.com/bcdgmswolfpack

In order to post messages on our board, you need to become a member. Please see either Mr. Sakai, Dan C., or Kris S. in person to receive the password and be validated.

We are also looking into a chat room just for CDGMS students. It will also be password protected.

Mr.s Farley, Mr. McAvoy, Mr. Revel, and a few select parents left Tuesday afternoon with the senior band for Edmonton, Alberta. If any of them are checking in (do they have Internet in Alberta?), we hope you guys are having fun. We know Mr. McAvoy would be for sure. Remember to bring back something -- maybe a dinosaur from Drumheller?

May 20, 2003

Friday was Track & Field Day at CDGMS. At 8:45, the students headed out for Rotary Stadium under cloudy skies with an occasional drizzle here and there. By mid morning the weather turned ugly. Hail, slush, rain, you name it, it happened. The staff and students kept going as long as they could, but the wind and near freezing temperatures forced the otherwise well-planned event to be called off prematurely. A good majority of the events, however, were completed. Those events that were not run on Friday will be run during this week (weather permitting, of course). Results will be uploaded as soon as all events are completed and recorded. Great job, Mr. Wilms, for organizing this year's event. Thanks go out to the teachers and volunteers for hanging in there under such adverse conditions.

May 14, 2003

Spirit Week Schedule has been changed. Please check for updates.

In case you haven't noticed the small banner on our home page, our web site recently received a Golden Web Award. Our page was most likely awarded for content rather than appearance :-) Sorry to those of you who like and expect flashy and cute, but what little time and effort we have we spend on content. I'm sure most of you would agree, though, that simplicity, ease of navigation, and detailed information is far more important for a school web site. Also very important is the fact that not everybody has a fast Internet connection -- we take into consideration all users. We will strive to improve on the appearance side of things, but for now it's just going to continue to be a plain Jane web site. Please remember that this web site can only get better with constructive criticism and great ideas from its visitors. We at Chief Dan George Middle School are very proud of our web site.

May 9, 2003

The 1st Annual CDGMS Chess Tournament was a great success. We were expecting 70 or so competitors, but 158 showed up. Plans are already underway for next year's event.

An important update from Ms Landry regarding Spirit Week. (see May 07 school newsletter for Spirit Week schedule)

My sincerest apologies but we need to make a change to Friday's lunch schedule...

We will still start lunch at 11:45am. IT WILL FINISH AT 12:30 - kids will go back to class for 5 minute attendance then down to the gym right away. The pep rally will have to start at 12:45 (as we have to have the grade 5 kids out by 1:50).

thanks for your patience -

May 1, 2003

Grade sixes had their movie night today from 3 till 5. Over 100 students came out and they all had a great time.

Hey kids! Do you have an unusual talent? Can you do something unusual, silly or really really funny that most of your friends can't do? Yes? Then you should sign up for the "Stupid Human Tricks Competition" that will be held during our next Pep Rally on May 23rd.

What do you have to do? It's very simple.

1) First you have to have an awesome stupid trick...of course it must be a trick that is appropriate to present at school!!
2) Put your name on the sign up sheet outside Mme Flann's class, Rm # 160
3) Attend the auditions for stupid human tricks in Mme Flann's class on Thursday May 8th. All participants must show up at the beginning of lunch.
4) If you are selected, you will get to present your stupid human trick in front of the whole school and hey...who knows... perhaps you will win!!! There will be awesome prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

This event is sure to be a hilarious...so get your unusual and/or stupid talent ready.

The CDGMS Grade 8 Chess Team did well at the South Surrey Chess Championships. Congratulations to Austin H. who came in third place and qualified for the Provincial Championships. Pics from the musical, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, are now up.

April 4, 2003

Last Night's performance of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" was exceptional, and so was this afternoon's performance. One more to go, cast and crew. You guys have come a long way and all your hard work has paid off. News of the quality of our production is spreading quickly. Too bad tonight's the last night. More. The Grade 8 chess club team will be at this Saturday's chess tournament in Surrey. Good Luck, guys. Hey, Rugby is huge at our school. Did you know our guys kicked some derrier the other day? Yes, the Walnut Grove Gators of Langley got quite a beating -- something to the effect of 59 to 0. Keep it up, guys! Mr. Laudadio, Mr. Farley, and Mr. Lilly, you guys rock!

March 26, 2003

March 7, 2003

That was one heck of a Pep Ralley we just had. Batman was there, so was Marilyn Monroe and Austin Powers. The celebrity boxing matches were awesome! The pep rally marked the end of our French cultural week -- Carnaval. It was a great way for both French Immersion students and English students to do stuff together. Thanks, to those who organized the events.

March 5, 2003

Chief Dan George Middle School will be hosting a chess tournament for all schools in the Fraser Valley and the Lower Mainland. For more information and updates on the tournament, check out the Chess Tournament web page.

Some new pages and links were added to our web site. Did you know we have an Origami Club at Chief Dan George Middle School? Ever wondered what the ICT Club is all about? We have a CDGMS Wrestling Team, too. Basketball continues and the league standings are updated on a weekly basis (well, almost). There are lots of other teams and clubs in action at CDGMS, but until the webmaster receives info or pictures from the sponsor coaches or from the students involved, it isn't gonna happen. So, students, let's start writing! Webmaster will even proof it for you and spice it up.

Students! Check out the "students' work" web page. It would be great to put up some cool digital art created by students from our school. If you know of anyone with cool stuff, like writings (prose, poetry, etc.), drawings, animations, PowerPoint presentations or movies, let Mr. Sakai know and if it passes the quality control test, it'll be up in a flash. There's also a link to the page on the site map. Don't forget tomorrow is the pep rally and Friday is the dance.

December 17, 2002

At the end of this week, two of our staff members will be leaving our school -- Mr. Lilly, who took over for Mrs. Landry and Mrs. McDonald, who took over for Mrs. Finch. Mrs. McDonald has accepted a position over at Abby Middle School, while Mr. Lilly will be a TOC in the district until a suitable position presents itself. Both of these fine educators have made a profound contribution to the learning of all the students at Chief Dan George. They will be missed tremendously by both the students and staff. Best of wishes go out to them. In the new year, Mrs. Landry and Mrs. Finch, both of whom were on maternity leave, will be back. Mrs. Finch will be back as homeroom teacher to Division One, teaching the subjects of math, CAPP, and French. Ms Landry will be back as Teacher/Librarian and First Nations.

Parents and students, please note that school will be back in session on Wednesday, January 8th, of year 2003 of the Common Era (a little social studies lesson) -- BCE and CE instead of BC (before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini).

The Hallowe'en dance and costume parade was a great success. Pictures from the two events will be posted in the school photo album as soon as we finish the web page (we're still working on it). Activated today are the links to the First Nations and Leadership pages. More and more links will be activated as soon as information starts coming in. Rome was not built in a day.

Chief Dan George Middle is having its annual Book Fair (Nov. 18-22). We are looking for volunteers. Volunteers with an artistic streak can create decorations, set up the Classroom Wish List display, or display posters throughout the school. Volunteers who love to read can conduct Book Talks or help families find just the right books for them. If you are interested in helping with this event please contact Paul Lilly (librarian) at 852-9616.

October 28, 2002

This Thursday is Hallowe'en, so come to school that day all decked out. There will be a costume parade and a dance in the afternoon.

Web Site Contest Once in a while, the webmasters will hide an image of a "lone wolf" in one of our pages at cdgms.com. The first student or parent to let us know where it is hidden will win a prize! Contest will start next week (October 13, 2002).

September 29, 2002

CDGMS might be getting a junior dragster! Mr. McAvoy and friends are working very hard to get a racing programme started at our school. We have a whole whack of sponsors willing to help out. Junior dragsters are a smaller version of the real thing. Don't let that fool you, though. These lawnmower engines are tuned to make the dragsters go 80 mph! In order to drive one of these dragsters, you must be over 8 years old. A lot of technology and sweat goes into making the dragsters do their thing.

September 26, 2002

We had another successful tailgate party at CDGMS. In case some of you don't know, a CDGMS tailgate party is when we bring out the humongous, state-of-the-art, stainless steel, multi-propane tanked BBQ and serve up the best burgers and dogs this side of the Vedder Canal. We hold it in the parking lot in front of the school and crank up the tunes on our, shame-the-Rotary Stadium, sound system. It's a blast when the teachers come out and strut their dancing techniques. Mrs. Farley and Mr. Laudadio were out today dancing up a storm. Mr. Laudadio is one cool dude. Of course, the proceeds from the sales help keep our valuable programs alive at CDGMS.

September 20, 2002

The students and staff were looking mighty good today at CDGMS. It was picture day today. The pictures taken today will be used for the student ID cards as well as the yearbook. If any student is unhappy with the way their pictures turn out, don't panic, as you will get another chance when the photographers come back again for retakes on October 23, 2002.
